Makeup Order of Application

All links on this page will link you directly to my Avon store and to all the Avon makeup used in this tutorial.

New makeup and skincare products come out all the time, so how are we supposed to know which ones we need and how to apply it? Here I have created an abbreviated guide to the short order of application for makeup. I hope this guide will help you. As an Avon loyal Avon representative, I use all Avon products and therefore promote all Avon products in my posts because I know and love the quality. However, if you use other brands, this guide can still help you understand the order of application for makeup.

1. Cleanser

avon makeup, cleanser, skin care

The best way to start so many things is with a clean slate. This is also true with your face. You need to get all that junk out of your pores, so your makeup can sit on top of your face, not in it.

This purifying gel cleaner is said to clean the skin of dirt, makeup, oil and impurities. Reducing the oil by 85% studies say, so that you can start fresh with the cleanest slate possible.
Normally: $10. Campaign 8: 2 for $15.

2. Day Cream

day cream, avon, makeup, skin care, products

Day creams moisturize and protect your face. Applying a day cream is like apologizing to your face beforehand. You’re about to cover and lather it in products but you are preparing it to make it through in a healthy way.

Avon carries a wide variety of day creams for every type of face and every need, but almost all of them come with SPF 25 so your face is protected all day long.
Normally: $28. Campaign 8: $19.99.

3. Face Perfecter

makeup, primer, skin care, professional, avon

Face primers such as this one are not generally categorized as makeup. Instead they are thought of more as a makeup aid. They help your makeup last longer, look better and stay on sharper. The last thing you want is for your make-up to start shining in the 6 and 7th hours.

The MagiX face perfecter is a face primer. It helps keep your face a perfectly smoothed matte for 7+ hours. This also comes with SPF 20 so your face not only looks perfect but it can stay that way.
Normally: $12. Campaign 8: $8.99.

4. Foundation

skin care, makeup, avon makeup, foundation

Foundation is base for all makeup. It’s the first piece of makeup to go on. It sets the tone (literally!) for your whole face. Choosing the correct color is so vital for the difference between a natural looking flawless face and a drawn-on face that can sometimes remind people of clown or costume makeup.

This Avon True Color Flawless Liquid Foundation is some of the best I have ever worn, at a price I can actually afford to wear year round. This full coverage blends so well you might think it’s natural. This also comes with SPF 15.
Normally: $12. Campaign 8: $8.99.

5. Concealer

makeup, avon makeup, concealer

You will find a lot of discussions on whether or not to use concealer before or after foundation. I prefer mine on top of foundation. One reason is so that I’m not applying more makeup then necessary. The foundation covers a lot of flaws, so that the concealer can just become a touch up tool. If you apply concealer first, you may find yourself using it more than you actually need to. I also get my concealer a shade lighter than my skin and apply over the foundation to help highlight those areas of my face, since my concealer are usually on areas of the face that should be brightened (forehead, under eyes, and chin).

I like these concealer sticks because my lines are super exact. It’s like drawing on my face. They work brilliantly. One swoop and any blemish is gone and the concealer stays on all day!
Normally: $8. Campaign 8: $6.99.

6. Brow Definer

I’ll be honest with you, I’m not a complete brow girl yet. Mine are thick and bold enough as they are, they don’t need much filling in. But I will admit that brow definers do miracles in color and shaping brows.

Avon boasts their Glimmersticks brow definer lasts for 10 hours. For the perfect touch, use a brow brush to align your eyebrows before use.
Normally: $7. Campaign 8: $4.99.

7. Eye Shadow

eyeshadow, eyeshadow pallet, makeup, avon makeup, smokey eye, bold eye

Eye shadow should be applied to an already primed and ready face. I like to take the break between foundation and contouring to focus on my eyes in order to let the foundation truly settle. The last thing you want to do with your liquid foundation is wipe it off before you even start. Give it a minute or two while you focus on your eyes and you should be good to go.

Eye shadow to me is one of my favorite parts. It’s the most flexible of pieces in your Order of Application. Colors can vary on your outfit, whether you want casual, formal or wild, and your mood. They can be as bold or subtle as your whim takes you.

There are so many different eyeshadow options with Avon, I’m not going to spend the space to write about them all here. The pallet featured is the Multi-Finish Quad. I chose this one because it comes in a variety of options. And let’s be honest, don’t we all typically buy a huge pallet of eyeshadow just to only use the same 4 over and over again?
Normally: $8. Campaign 8: Buy one get one 1/2 off with select eye and lip products.

8. Eye Liner

eye liner, avon makeup, makeup, eyes, bold eyeliner

Eye liner should be applied over your eye shadow. Applying over your eyeshadow makes your eyes pop. It adds a dramatic outline to part your eyeshadow color from your actual eye. It should work in tandem with your eyelashes. You should not be able to see a break in the two. Your eyelashes should look connected to your eyeliner for a clean look.

I have two different eye liners that I go back and forth between. The Glimmersticks features rolls on smooth and easily for even the most unsteadiest of hands like my own. It is slightly thick, however. I also use SuperExtend Precision Liquid Eyeliner when I want a precise, thin line. This one is perfect for winged eyeliner looks. However, I will worn you from experience, if you are a shaky eyeliner applied, like myself, this may bring you to the brink of bad words.
Normally: $7. Campaign 8: Buy one get one 1/2 off with select eye and lip products.

9. Mascara

mascara, makeup, avon makeup, eye lashes

Mascara should be applied after eyeliner. Also it should be applied after your eyelashes are curled with an eyelash curler. Problems arise when you try to add mascara before curling and eyeliner. Mascara is the finishing touch to your whole eye process.

Mascara is as individual as the person and the look. I have some mascara I use for days when I’m going with a hip casual outfit and I have another mascara I use for more professional looks. Do your research and pick a mascara, or couple mascaras, that are right for you.

I use Mega Effects Mascara for casual every day use. Read the newest way to apply mascara. I love how you apply it and I love the bold mascara look that draws attention to it. For more professional outfits, I use Avon SuperExtend Nourishing Mascara. I find the nice straight, long lashes are beautiful and add an elegance to certain looks.
Normally: $8. Campaign 8: Buy 1, Get 1 1/2 off select lip and eye products.

10. Contouring

highlighter, avon, avon makeup, contouring

There are many schools of thought on what tools to use for contouring. I’ll talk about two of the main ones.

A highlighter and bronzer. Highlighters are thicker more like foundation. They draw on and brighten areas of your face and leave a soft dewy look. Bronzer is typically applied with a brush to certain areas (like under cheekbones) to create the appearance of sharper features. Bronzer can be used by anyone as a great addition to a makeup routine, whether or not they feel contouring is the right fit for them. I use the bronzing pearls because I love the color mixture and shimmering quality they leave on my face.

Concealer Sticks. This is a method that I use on certain areas of my face. I have one concealer stick that is brighter than my face and one that is much darker. As I already mentioned above, I use the light concealer to cover up under eye circles and this also serves the function of highlighting this area. I then use both the light and dark concealer sticks to contour smaller specific areas of my face, such as my nose.

Highlighter. Normally: $14. Campaign 8: $14.
Bronzer. Normally: $11. Campaign 8: $7.99.

11. Blush

blush, makeup, avon makeup, pink, cheeks, cheekbones, contouring

Blush should be applied on the cheekbone, above where you’ve added bronzer. I do my blush at the same time as my contouring and then blend all at the same time. Step 10 and 11 are pretty interchangeable. Although if you use a powder blush and draw on contouring, then you will for sure want to contour then apply powder blush.

I personally use a blush stick because it draws on perfectly with my contouring tools. It blends well and I love the color. No more powdery messes and waste for me.
Normally: $11. Campaign 8: $7.99.

12. Lip Liner

lip liner, avon makeup, makeup, lips, lipstick

Lip liner is an important step that sadly so many people skip. If you want to use bold colors on your lip, do not skip this step. It can be so obvious if someone doesn’t use lip liners, because their lipstick will feather and begin to spread beyond the shape of the lips and some of the beauty of the lips are lost.

If you like to mix up your lip color frequently than clear lip liner is for you. With no color added to it, you can use with any lipstick and it keeps your lips on-point. With colored liners, color in your lips a little from the edge as well. This creates cool color tones that blend together and help your lipstick adhere to your lips better.
Normally: $7. Campaign 8: Buy 1, Get 1 1/2 off select lip and eye products.

13. Lipstick

lipstick, makeup, avon makeup, lips, bold, color

Apply lipstick to already aligned lips. Get all sides of your lips and reach to the edges to avoid an awkward look when you open your mouth to talk. And play away with all the colors you can imagine!

Avon lipstick has made it famous for years, now they’re keeping the tradition with Avon True Color. They promise the color you see on the tube is the color you get on your lips. No more surprises. You know what you’re getting and that is perfection.
Normally: $8. Campaign 8: Buy 1, Get 1 1/2 off select lip and eye products.

14. Setting Spray

setting spray, makeup, long lasting, avon makeupSetting spray is like the perfect makeup holder. It’s like capturing a photo of your makeup when you first apply it so it looks like that all day. So the look you see when you leave for work or school is the look you still have when you get home. Where has this been my whole life??
Normally: $13. Campaign 8: $9.99.

15. Make-Up Remover

makeup remover, makeup, avon makeup, clean face, cleanser, skin care, products

The day is over and you just want to fall in bed. But please, please, please don’t skip this step. No matter how great of quality your makeup is, it’s unhealthy to leave on your face while you sleep. Additionally, then you won’t have a clean slate to start with in the morning. Wipe off your makeup quickly with makeup remover wipes so you can get to bed faster.
Normally: $8. Campaign 8: $4.99.

16. Night Cream

night cream, skin care, makeup, avon makeup

Finally, protect your face while you sleep. Not only protect it, make it better. All the Anew night creams offered by Avon offer specific advantages to meet any need your skin has.

I use Anew Skinvisible Deep Recovery Cream. My skin has never been healthier. I’ve see the tone and quality of my face has improved tremendously. Pores have closed and scars become less noticeable. I never used to be a skin care person but I can’t go back to not using night cream. The benefits are amazing.
Normally: $36. Campaign 8: $19.99.

IF you were to buy EVERYTHING on this list normally it would cost: $208.
BUT in Campaign 8, with all its sales and promotions, it would cost: $155.90.
So shop and choose exactly what you need!
