Selling Avon – The Facts

Recently I have been noticing that a lot of the information readily available online about selling Avon is out of date. I also saw a lot of posts from people who were unhappy with their experiences with direct selling. My goal with this post is to clear up any old information or misconceptions about selling Avon.

I tossed around the idea of selling Avon for over a year before I finally decided to sign up. But I wish I had done so much earlier! All that false information made me hesitate! I signed up to Avon, truthfully to find a makeup brand that did not require me to keep an inventory and that I could receive a discount on products for myself. Avon was the perfect fit.

My Experience

I personally love Avon. I love their products. Avon products are pretty much the only makeup and skin care products I use. My house is full of Avon Living products. Selling Avon to me does not feel like work because I do believe in their products.

Many reviews I read before signing up talked about bad experiences selling Avon. I get it, this is not a get rich quick scheme. But I have also seen so many success stories. At the last meeting I attended, I heard success stories of people that achieved their goals with Avon, one bought the car they needed, another got to go on a family vacation with their earnings, and one lady was successfully selling $100,000 worth of product a year.

What I have discovered is that selling Avon is truly running your own business. You get out what you put in. I have had a lot of customers run to me because they love Avon and needed an Avon lady, but for the most part I have had to go find customers. And not all people I advertise to are willing to be customers. I buy samples, give them out, I market online, I post on Facebook. Just like all other small businesses today. This is brand new and super exciting. With Avon starting in April 2017, you now earn on the first dollar spent, online and in person! That means that even if you just order for yourself you get a discount on everything. Your discount rate is the same as your commission rate.

The Kickstart Program – How Avon Brags You Can Earn $1000 in 90 Days

Avon adjusts the commission for new Avon Representatives. This helps you launch your business and establishes goals for maximum earnings. The overall goal is $1000 in your first 3 months. But you can earn much more!

The Recruiting

This is the part of direct sales that people hate! They call it a pyramid scheme and say you can’t be successful. With Avon, you don’t need to recruit to be successful. If you just want to sell, or even just want to buy for yourself you can be more than happy.

Recruiting will, however, earn you bonuses, money, prizes, promotions and much more.

When I first joined Avon, I thought, no way will I recruit people. Thats just an annoying sales tactic. But, I’ve come to realize that people actually do want the opportunity! They want the flexibility of being their own boss, they want the extra cash this could earn them, or they just want to buy their own makeup at a discount! Whatever it is, I was selfish for not sharing the opportunity. I’ve never lost a friend for asking. They will simply tell you the Avon Rep lifestyle isn’t for them, and you go on.

The sponsor bonus is $20 per qualified recruit, plus 3% sponsor bonus commission on their sales. In addition, recruiting allows you to promote, which enables you to receive bonuses of up to $20,000 and leasing a car of your choice.

The Cost

This is another place that online disappointed me. I read reviews that people lost money selling Avon. Now I know a lot in Avon has changed in the past couple years, so I would be wary of old reviews. Here is the costs associated with Avon:

The Start-Up Cost

$25, $50, or $100 start-up kit. I, personally, used a $50 gift card to buy the Advanced Starter Kit and with that I received way more than $50 worth in full-sized products alone. So no disappointment here.

The FREE Way To Sell (Selling Avon Doesn’t Have to Cost You ANYTHING)

You will get an Avon Online Store for free, all you have to do is make sure it’s active. You can send all your customers to your online store address. Starting in April 2017, the commission rates on the online store sales and the personal sales are the EXACT SAME! Yay! View my online store here.

Your customers can access the brochures online for free. And all online orders over $40 have free shipping directly to your customers. Now its up to you to market your Avon store online to ensure customer growth. It won’t be easy, but you can do it. View my online brochures here.

Other Costs (ALL these costs are OPTIONAL, YOU decide how to run Your Business)

If you place orders for your customers, the fee will be $6 shipping and handling. You charge customers $0.75 for a ordering fee. Meaning you have to have 8 customers per order, or the $6 will cut into your commission.

Brochures are ordered in packs of 10. 10 brochures costs $6.49 and 100 brochures cost $21.49.

People also buy bags to deliver and samples. I personally skip the bags most of the time, unless a customer has a large order, I find my own cute ways to wrap up their products for a personal touch. Samples cost practically cents, and gain me so much more in return. With people buying makeup online, they are more confident if they’ve tried a product first.

The truth is, Avon allows you to run YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Aside from the start-up kit, all costs are optional. You choose how you want to market and run your business.

The Other Great Things About Avon: Incentives and Meetings

The incentives that Avon gives are AMAZING!

Just recently I won this Kate Spade jewelry box from a scratch-off incentive, just for getting a new recruit. Something I was going to do anyways!

In 2017, one of the incentives you can win for good performance is a trip to the Bahamas for FREE! And if you do extremely well, you can take someone with you for FREE!

These are just some examples of the exciting things Avon does. I can’t always make meetings, but when I can I go. My local branch gives out free products and samples and helps teach tools to business success. It is a great time of learning how to improve your business and hanging with other Beauty Bosses.
