The Bible is God’s written word to us. It’s like our best friend just gave us an autobiography of themselves, of their history, likes and dislikes, and what’s important to them. And yet, sometimes we rarely read it! When we are not consistently reading it, we forget about God’s great love!
God promises to be with us in all times, the good and the bad. He doesn’t promise that sometimes terrible things won’t happen to us, but He tells us we can bring those burdens to Him. He tells us repeatedly that He loves us and He cares for us.
I am not a fan of Bible roulette (just opening the Bible to a random place and hoping God speaks to me). I’m not saying I haven’t done it before, and I’m not saying it hasn’t worked; I’m just saying it’s not always the best way to find what you need in the Bible.
I chose verses that have encouraged my heart throughout the years. As I went through, preparing for this posts, I saw many of these verses highlighted in different colors. If you know me, you know that I use a different highlighter color in my Bible every year. This told me how important these verses were to me at different stages of my life. How cool!
My hope is that you find some encouragement in the Bible verses. Whether to help you through a rough day, a tough time, or maybe to store up for a rainy day, I hope everyone can get some peace and calm through these verses.
If you like the Bible Verse images I created, share them on Pinterest or Social Media to store for a rainy day or encourage others!
By the way, these lovely images were made by me, using some watercolors from the very talented Fox and Hazel. If you love her work, check out her page.
They understand. “They say sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some. And right now, right now I’m losing bad,” Mercy Me.
Yet, they also know what is worth clinging to and that is Jesus. “My hope is you alone,” Mercy Me.
2. I Am Not Alone – Kari Jobe
Ever feel alone? This song reminds you that you are never alone.
“In the midst of deep sorrow, I see Your light breaking through… I am not alone, You will go before me, You will never leave me,” Kari Jobe.
3. Oh My Soul – Casting Crowns
“Oh, how your worry, oh how you’re weary from fearing you lost control,” Casting Crowns.
Losing control is one of the biggest causes of fear and stress. This song reminds us that we may not have control, but we are loved by a God who does have control.
4. Chain Breaker – Zachery Williams
This is one of the most encouraging songs on the radio right now.
“If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker… If you’ve got chains, He’s a chain breaker,” Zach Williams.
There are always going to be obstacles we just cannot overcome on our own. This song is here to remind us that we have a God who is bigger and stronger than any obstacle. I like to think of this song as the adult version of VeggieTales’ God is Bigger than the Boogie Man.
5. Tell Your Heart to Beat Again – Danny Gokey
When you are at your lowest point, this song’s lyrics will let you know that others have been there before and made it out okay.
“You’re shattered like you’ve never been before. The life you knew in a thousand pieces on the floor. And words fall short in times like these,” Danny Gokey.
6. Come Alive – Lauren Daigle
So many people focus so entirely on the New Testament, that some Christians have never even read the Old Testament. It is great to hear lyrics talking about our powerful God in the Old Testament. When He actually made dry bones come alive. If He can do that in the physical, imagine what He can do with your weary, dry heart.
“We call out to dead hearts come alive, come alive,” Lauren Daigle.
7. Brother – Needtobreathe ft. Gavin DeGraw
God is our great encourager. But if you don’t have Christian friends around you encouraging you, you need to get plugged into the local church. This song speaks to Christian fellowship and being accountable for each other. There are people who will be there for you. Just reach out to the local church and find some. Many people have been hurt in church before, but don’t let that scare you off. Churches are as individual as the people inside of them, there is some way and some how you can find Christian friends to be there for you. You were not meant to do life alone.
“Ramblers in the wilderness, we can’t find what we need. We get a little restless from the searching, get a little worn out in between,” Needtobreathe.
8. King of the World – Natalie Grant
“I try to put You in the box that I’ve designed, I try to pull You down so we are eye to eye,” Natalie Grant.
We’ve all done this. We try to imagine God in our own image. That’s a little backwards. This song reminds us just how powerful and how awesome our God is. He has ALWAYS been the King of the World. Before you were born, He was already orchestrating things to His will.
9. In the Eye of the Storm – Ryan Stevenson
“When the test comes in and the doctor says I’ve only got few months left. It’s like a bitter pill I’m swallowing; I can barely take a breath. And when addiction steals my baby girl, and there’s nothing I can do, my only hope is to trust You,” Ryan Stevenson.
In the bleakest situations, all we can do is hope and pray. This song encourages us to remember that God is in control. By the end of this song, you may breathe a little easier and your heart might feel a little lighter.
10. Lord I’m Ready Now – Plumb
I saved this song for last, because if you are truly struggling, letting go is the hardest thing to do. You need to listen and be encouraged by the other songs in this list to be ready to give it all to God. Then, listen to this song, and use it as a prayer.
“I just let go and I feel exposed… Lord I’m ready now, all the walls are down. Time is running out and I wanna make this count,” Plumb.
